Key Stage 2 Progress (2025-2026)
2026 marks the return of the KS1-to-KS2 progress measures using statutory KS1 assessments from 2021–2022. This was the last year before the Government removed the KS1 assessments.
The 0 Baseline: A progress score of 0 means that pupils in your school have made roughly the same amount of progress as other pupils nationally who had the exact same prior attainment (Key Stage 1) starting points.
Positive Scores: A positive score (e.g., +1.5) means pupils made more progress than the national average for similar starting points.
Negative Scores: A negative score (e.g., -1.5) means they made less progress than the national average.
Exceptional progress: 'Exceptional Progress' is evaluated at the school level using a value-added progress measure, where a progress score of +3.0 or higher is generally considered exceptional. A school score of +3.0 means its pupils achieved, on average, three scaled score points higher than similar peers across the country.

It is pleasing that in 2026 our Year 6 children generated a progress score of 1.76 for Reading and 1.18 for Maths. Therefore, our children made much more progress than the national average for similar starting points. The Writing shows 'exceptional progress' of 4.32. The last time there was a progress measure in 2023, our children appeared in the top 5% of the country for Maths progress of 4.2 and Writing of 4.0. Therefore, we should appear in the top 5% of the country for Writing progress in 2026.
Historic Key Stage 2 Progress Data
Up until 2023, the Department for Education published comparison data each year to show the progress that had been made between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. 2022-23 was the last year that progress data was published routinely before a single year of progress data was published in 2026 and this will be the last year of KS1 to KS2 comparison data. Westgate appeared in the top 3% of the country for progress in Writing and the top 4% for Maths and in the top 7% for Reading. The historic progress data is shown below.
