At Westgate School we offer the following music options:-
- Ukulele (Reception to Year 2)
- Guitar (Years 3 - 6)
- Violin (Reception to Year 6)
- Drums (Reception to Year 6)
- Choir (Reception to Year 6 lunchtime club)
- Singing (Years 3 - 6 by invitation to sing with our choral specialist)
Reception children are taught by their teacher and choir leader. Year 1 and 2 children have hour-long lessons each week with a specialist music teacher from Warwickshire County Music Service. Pupils in Year 3 are taught the violin for an hour a week for the whole year by specialist violin teachers from Warwick Preparatory School and King's High School. Year 4 children receive their weekly lesson from a choral expert who comes to us from the Warwick a Singing Town project. Our music specialist from Warwickshire County Music also teaches our children in Year 5 and 6 for an hour a week where the children work on complex composition work using the skills that have been developed with instruments and voice during the earlier school years.
The head of Warwickshire County Music commented that 'Your Year 5 children had a greater musical knowledge than the GCSE class that I watched yesterday.'
