Be The Best You Can Be!
The 'Be the Best you Can Be!' (BTBYCB) programme is founded on the idea that all young people, through coaching, can be enabled to achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as responsible individuals, citizens and members of their communities.
We launched the programme here at Westgate, following a staff (and governor) development day with Olympic Gold Medal winner Dr David Hemery CBE. The training encouraged all members of staff to reflect on how they can ‘Be the Best they can Be’.
The day covered a range of useful techniques to promote personal growth and development as well as skills to help them achieve their own goals, with a view to them inspiring, coaching and mentoring similar behaviour in each of the children.
To kickstart the programme, each child has been given their own 'dream folder', which they use to keep a record of their own goals and aspirations - the children will take ownership of these, using them as a diary of their own personal growth and development as they work towards their goals and set new targets.
The children then had visits from Paralympic swimmer, Robin Surgeoner and Olympic Badminton player, Anthony Clark. The children loved meeting such inspirational people and both spent time working with the children to further embed the 'Be the Best you Can Be!' programme in their thinking. They children had chance to have their dream books signed as well as taking some of the photos you can see below. Our aim is that children will continue to experience the benefits of the Be the Best you Can Be! programme throughout the year and beyond.
We really hope this programme helps our children to develop their thinking about how they can be the star of their own lives, develops their skills to make it happen and supports them in developing confident and positive relationships with each other.
We have included some additional documents and newsletters to show what is happening as a result of Be the Best you Can Be! We will also be updating this page throughout the year.
